For Ron Jueneman, hard work moves mountains

What does R. L. Jueneman Construction specialize in?

We do heavy construction erosion control. Basically that means we move earth, seed on roadsides, and do soil conservation on dams.

How did you get started in the construction business?

I was running heavy equipment with my dad from the time I was in 7th or 8th grade. I’d ride in trucks, help service them, and work on them, so it quickly became second nature. While everyone else was playing sports, I was working. When you grow up on a farm, that’s just what you do.

What was one of your most challenging jobs?

It’s hard to think of one, because just about every single job is challenging. Everything from 11 inches of rain when trying to build a lagoon, to having to suspend building a dam because the dirt’s too dry. Every day you run into a different problem and you learn something new. We really need to be flexible.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in construction?

You have to really enjoy it, otherwise it’ll just feel like work. For me, I really like taking a parcel of land, reshaping it, and cleaning it up so guys can farm on it again. It feels good.
